Sacred Homage

Program note

"Sacred Homage" for solo bassoon depicts the mental and physical preparation of a Muay Thai fighter. Repeated motifs reflect concentration and determination, while multiphonics, glissandi, tremolo, flutter-tonguing, and dynamic contrasts demand agility and expressive control. Melodic phrases adapted from the ceremonial Wai Kru dance enter a Western framework, and the through-composed form mirrors the continuously evolving nature of preparation and combat. The piece creates an intersection of Thai cultural motifs and contemporary bassoon technique.
