Four-faced Brahma
Double Woodwind Quintet and Piano
Program note
"Four-faced Brahma" for woodwind sextet fuses the distinct timbres of the woodwind family with Western classical forms and Muay Thai dance inspiration. The principal melody of "Sarama," traditionally played on the Pi Chawa by Master Somnuk Saengarun, creates a bridge between Thai and Western traditions. Layered harmonies, varied textures, changing tonal centers, and dynamic contrasts move from the flute's airy grace to the bassoon's depth, joined by the piano's clarity. The ensemble becomes a vivid field for cross-cultural collaboration and contemporary musical exploration.
